Dale W. Feb - Lead investigator

Dale W. Feb is a professional Fireplace, Chimney & Venting Consultant who has personally performed over eighteen thousand Level II fireplace inspections. He currently provides litigation support for Fire Loss, Construction Defect, Product Failure, and Personal Injury Litigation as well as Assistance in Design and Construction Specifications. He has been involved in the hearth and mechanical industries for over twenty-four years. He is a qualified instructor and author for the F.I.R.E. Certification Program, holds Six ICC Building Code Inspector Certifications, is a UFCA Certified Fire Code Inspector, an IAPMO Certified Mechanical Inspector, a California Licensed Mechanical Contractor, a CREIA Master Certified Inspector, A CREIA New Construction Specialist, an NFI Certified Gas Specialist and a F.I.R.E. Certified "Fireplace & Chimney Inspector". He is the founder, president and one of several instructors for the Fireplace Investigation, Research & Education Service (F.I.R.E. Service). F.I.R.E. Service is based on the West Coast in Moorpark, California, and has a second East Coast educational facility in Richmond, Virginia. Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors, Item-Writing Committee - January 31, 2001 - February 2, 2002, Chicago Illinois.
Assisted in developing, reviewing and validation of multiple-choice questions for the National Home Inspectors Examination. I also assisted in the re-development and validation of the sample test available by means of the Internet.

Principal Author of the Fireplace & Chimney Inspector Certification Exam. Development and ongoing updates of two versions of the one hundred and twenty-five question multiply choice exam. This exam is regularly updated based on the changes within the building codes and the industry standards. The task of managing and administering the F.I.R.E. Exam was accepted by the IAFCI Examination Board on September 3, 2008.

Contacted with OCFA as a Special Investigator and subject matter expert on fireplaces, chimneys and venting products. These fire investigations are provided to assist OCFA in their Cause and Origin Investigations. Professional education is also provided to the OCFA Public Investigators.

NFPA 211 Coordination Task Group – May 14, 2014 – Current
The NFPA 211 Coordination Task Group was assembled at my request to review NFPA 211 and identify sections that overlap with NFPA 31 and NFPA 54 and make recommendations to move, revise, or extract material so that all three codes are harmonized or cross-referenced.
